Chata na Grúni was built as a private cottage in 1949 by Jaroslav Tejnský, co-founder of the mountain service in Vrátná dolina.
The cottage was gradually operated by state organizations: the Turista tourism company, Stredoslovenské hotels, Interhotels Ružomberok and Slávia University of Transport in Žilina. In 1992, the cottage was restituted.
The cottage owners were Jozef Ragas, Viliam Koreň, Karol Doboš, Ján Martinický, Kazimír Šumichrast and Viktor Vallo. The current cottage owner is Vladimír Vallo.
The cottage underwent its first reconstruction in 1992, when a section with toilets and showers was added. In the following period, a utility section and a wastewater treatment plant were gradually added to the cottage. The cottage was insulated. The interior was also renovated. A playground, covered fireplace and buffet were built. In 2010, the roof was renovated and replaced.
